Lexipedia (Pocket PC) description |
|
|
The fastest way from huh? to duh! 550,000 articles groomed, clipped, compressed and ready to go. The largest and most expansive reference work in the history of human knowledge can now be on your Windows Mobile Pocket PC. Based on the Wikipedia encyclopedia project, Lexipedia contains over 550,000 articles that are quickly and easily searched. This massive tome requires a fair amount of storage but it pays for itself by being the go-to place for just about any reference question you may have.
Classics, biographies, the plant and animal kingdom, human history, music, bands, movies, business, military, medical, it just goes on and on and on. Lexipedia includes just the summary sections or beginnings of articles in order to make the product a manageable size but you can optionally download the entire unabridged version too.
Our search technology uses "sounds like" matching so you don't need to know how to spell a word to look it up.
Installation notes:
Download and run this small installer: LexipediaAppOnlySetup.exe Choose "run from this location" when asked. You must still install onto a storage card. Next, you will need to download a Lexipedia database file:
307 MB - Concise database, articles are 2000 letters or less. 444 MB - Midsize database, articles are 4400 letters or less. 712 MB - Unabridged database, articles are not cut off.
and save it to your desktop computer. Using Windows Explorer copy the Lexipedia.lx file to the same directory that Lexipedia is installed in (the same directory where Lexipedia.exe is).
If you have a memory card reader on your PC you can copy the file in about 2 minutes. Copying over ActiveSync can take upwards of 1 hour.
Database files can also be downloaded via BitTorrent for faster and more reliable results. Requirements:
· Pocket PC 2002 and Windows Mobile 2003 and 5.0
· 300 MB of free storage space
