OpenWatch J2ME description

OpenWatch is a WIP prototype of smartWatchM application for the Java platform.

OpenWatch is a WIP prototype of smartWatchM application for the Java platform. It works with Sony Ericsson MBW-100/150/200. The mobile phone has to support JSR-82 (Bluetooth API, even for unsigned apps). There may be few more requirements since the development is in the beginning and the prototype wasn't tested on many phones.

Tested and working:

- Nokia (N85, 5800)
- LG (Arena)
- Blackberry (8800, 9000)

Not working:

- Sony Ericsson (any)

Limitations:

- Due to the J2ME sandbox restriction there will be probably no notifications for new message (sms/e-mail) nor incoming phone call. The only exception here is BlackBerry (and Android of course).
- No Sony Ericsson phone - It may not work because the internal support for the SE watch can have higher priority to connect.
- Limits on Motorola phones - Creating media player control is not possible here since the JSR-75 (Filesystem API) requires manufacturer certificate. However there are two workarounds for you: 1) Flash patched/hacked firmware or 2) Get your own Motorola testing certificate (for selected IMEI, it's free, valid for 6 months)

Possible use:

- Media player control - create tiny embedded MP3 player (or other formats based on the phone capabilities) in Java and use the watch buttons to control it (and display the track tithe on the watch). This will require JSR-75 (Filesystem API).

Here are some key features of "OpenWatch J2ME":

· Time sync
· Automatic reconnect

Requirements:

· MIDP 2.0, CLDC 1.0
