There are only two companies doing Outlook on Android right now, Nitrodesk which makes Touchdown, and coming soon, Outlook on Android by Aardvark. I own Touchdown, and since I need Outlook for my office/work, it was my only option. As an application for work, it's got some *serious* issues that prevent it from being the workhorse I was expecting. I've owned Palm Treo's and Blackberries, both with superior Outlook aftermarket software.
In a word, Touchdown 1.5.000 gets you your outlook email and calendar -- if you can put up with the counterintuitive funkiness of this software. Email takes forever to load in (you can't get just the headers and THEN decide to get the rest of the message), you cannot see your outgoing messages or your outbox messages, there are buttons that don't need to be so prominent (mark read/mark unread), composing messages is kind of hokey, and why would you need a selector button over the message? (I still don't know what to do with that one)
What I'm using touchdown for right now is to check messages, but replying to them and doing most of my work is minimal (unlike when I was on my blackberry or palm treo) -- and for more work intensive processes I just wait till I'm at a hotspot or hotel to pull out the laptop.
Overall, a fair product, but it seriously needs work. |
